Hello, I enjoyed reading your website and learned a lot of information about the Maltese from it. I wish I'd found your web site earlier. We have a year and half old Maltese that my husband bought from a pet store for me on our aniversary. He felt sorry for the puppy...it looked so sad in the cage. I've wanted a Maltese for years and now that our youngest child is 16 years old, we figured it was time to be owned by a dog. We had him neutered and he is our buddy. Snickers is a love...he's smart, affectionate, healthy, follows us everywhere but he's big.(10lbs). He's a great companion. I wanted a small dog- about 5 pounds. My husband jokes that Snickers is a Maltese on steroids. After reading your web site, I think Snickers is one of the puppy mill puppies that is mixed with a Bichon. We did spend quite a bit of money on getting him healthy when he was a baby. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the great information your website contains. I was wondering if you could tell me how someone gets involved in showing a dog and what a show dog would cost. Would you consider selling a puppy to someone who lived in another state? Do you ever place your older females who are retired or finished breeding in homes? Any information you could provide I'd appreciate. Thank you, Susanne

Wonderful web site. I'm just thinking about getting a puppy but not ready yet. You are the type of breeder I would be looking for - a true "mama-bear" when it comes to her babies. I'd like to keep in touch!

Thank you for the invaluable information provided on your web site. The Maltese breed can be a fathiful and lovable companion. Over the past 30 years, we have been fortunate to share our home with three wonderful "boys" who brought us many years of joy. Recently, we had to let our last one go at age 15. Thanks again.

This website was a joy to visit because it was thoroughly obvious that its owners have the best of intentions for the Maltese breed as a whole as their focus; i.e. they are not producing this website, nor are they " producing Maltese puppies" with the intention of "making a quick buck". The love they have for this breed can be seen in the information they post for others regarding breed size, best age for pups to go to their new homes, grooming directions and suggestions, and their desire to have comments posted and shared. If you look at the photos of the new puppies available (from two days of age through 12 weeks, following the home page) you'll notice the puppies all have clean faces that are free of mucus near the eyes and are without staining around the muzzle as well. Their hair is shiney and without matting, and they are literally leaping with good health and happiness (look at those last photos especially!). Please note that I do not know the couple behind the Foxstone kennel name and I have not purchased any pups from them---I'm just someone who surfed on in and was totally and thoroughly impressed by what I saw on this website! But to be honest, I must say that if I were ready to become a Maltese-Mama right now, I would get on my knees and BEG to be considered a possible candidate for one of these puppies! Wow!! Thanks for a wonderful experience viewing your lovely dogs! Joan Zatorski in Tucson, Arizona

This has to be one of the nicest, most informative web pages I have visited. I think it is the music that makes it so special. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and my mother has a Bichon Frise. It was interesting to note the differences between the Bichon and the Maltese. I plan on sending this to a few friends just for them to enjoy!

Let's face it...a dog is a dog...and all dogs are man's best friend. But I have had two Malts in my life, they are special, unique and truly THE most delicate and beautiful breed every developed. They are the Liz Taylor and Vivien Leigh of the dog world. I loved your site! Because of your obvious ethical championing of what is going on today with so called "reputable breeders". You are first of only a few, sadly who offer TRUE and sensible advice on selecting the proper breed standard...and also you are only one of a select small advising against "Tea Cups" and "Malti-poos" this very dangerous practice! I have seen many websites selling Malti-poos for outrageous prices, and it make's me ill. There are many mutts as you point out, awaiting to euthanized and even Maltese to be rescued, why pay hundreds for a mixed breed? A poodle is a poodle, not a Maltese. Your dogs are gorgeous too....I applaud your classy and caring website to get the word out, and improve the breed standard! Best Regards, Jeanne

I wanted to thank you for having such an informative website. I have been researching small dogs for some time now. I recently became most interested in Maltese & Yorkies. I would like to have a small dog for myself. We have 3 boys in our household & I am the only girl. I am hoping to get a female dog since I can't have anymore children & I did so want to have a girl! I grew up with pets, mostly dogs and I absolutely love them. Your website has been the most honest about the teacup size dogs & has given me the most info. on the Maltese breed. I am over joyful that I found this site so that I will be able to tell the difference between a full bred Maltese & mixed breeds. I am leaning more towards a Maltese that a Yorkie because of their non shedding trait & good health record. If there is any other information you could provide me with, or a good research website, I would greatly appreciate it. I do have one standing question. Is there a way to estimate the adult weight while these dogs are still in puppy stage? Thank you so much, Heather Novia

I loved reading your web site! I have a pet "Abby" maltese. We own nursing homes is SC and she goes with me every day and loves it and the residents love her. We call her "Abby with an Attitude". She is my second Maltese and is the best pet I've ever had. She loves the beach, hates my grandchildren, has a wonderful coat, no tears and loads of personality. Do recommend a particular shampoo and conditioner?

I think your website is excellent. I am a certified Vet tech in NJ, and I had my boss look at your site as well. We were both so impressed, that we actually tell many of our clients to check it out! Your information re: the difference between backyard breeders, REAL breeders and the puppy mills are first rate. Many of our clients make the mistake of buying from petstores and backyard breeders, then wonder why they have probs with the pet. I also like the fact that you suggest rescue organizations as an alternative to buying a dog. Thanks again for the wonderful information!!

I have owned three Maltese in the last 20 yrs. That is I thought they were Maltese! After reading the info here and other sites I am now wondering if they were a mix or purebred dogs. But all in all I was in love with them! I just lost my little girl in a pit bull attack in which she was killed.I am now looking for another female Maltese. With the information I have seen I am really confused on how to find her.I do not have $1000.00 plus to spend on a pet but I would like to have a healthy dog.Is it so wrong to have a mixed breed as a pet? I have seen a lot of ads for Maltese in the paper for $5-700.00 is this a sign that these dogs may not be purebred? I live in Tampa FL.I guess in my eyes that a mixed breed would be just as good.Do I have any hope of finding a good healthy female Maltese for that price$5-700.00,or should I just settle for a mixed breed?

HI, my name is Mechelle I am a international flight attendant considering buying a maltese I'm trying to learn as much about them as possible. My main concern is how much time can they be alone.I've always wanted a maltese and we just moved into our new home. I love your website. Can you recommend the best maltese book on nutrition, potty training, do they shed alot etc. Also can they be trained to use a liter box? I probably should call (smile) I'm long winded as you can see. oh my husbands home everyday and my dad's retired we have 2 family poodles so we take turns babysitting. What would be the cost of a boy and girls personality different from the boys.Should we buy 2? O.K. this is it. Smile I'm just excited about getting my new baby my first wedding anniversary is June 27th I've already asked for my baby. Thanks Mechelle

Dear Foxstonemaltese site: What nice information!!! I was currently a toy poodle owner for 13 years, when in February 2005, he left us for that doggie heaven in the sky.. Our hearts still remain broken, since he was our only dog (baby) actually I should say. Anyway, in searching around, all Apricot Toy Poodles, seem to bring back such memories of our Cuddles. So we decided we want new memories and I have been searching other Toy dogs. My decision was finally made. A beautiful Maltese, with that baby doll face and those dark eyes. Your information on this website really helped me to know what I need to look for. I live in Delaware, and I am looking to buy in the month of June. We are vacationing in May, I want to come back well rested to start fresh with my new baby. Vet bills and cremation for our Cuddles set us back several hundred dollars. At the present time I could only pay $600-$800 for a Maltese. So I am looking for one that would be locally enough for me to drive and get him. I do not want him shipped. I like to pick my puppy out. Looking for a male, NO Leaky eyes, AKC preferred that will weight 4-6 pounds when fully grown.. If there is a breeder out there, who can meet me at this price, please know your little guy, will be given the best home and ALL the love in the world. Kisses and hugs everyday, top of line food and taken everywhere. Please email me with your location and your baby pictures... I'm anxiously waiting... Thanks Tammi email allen26@msn.com

Excellent website, my little girl is almost 6 yrs old and she came to our family when she was 6 weeks old and 3/4 of a pound. We were lucky she did not get sick then I guess. I noticed that you spoke of one of the maltese getting a chemical imbalance problem because of food. My little girl has bad breath so we purchased a breath freshener to put in her water. Little did we know that it was not FDA regulated and it had CoInzyme Q10 in it. Not 2 days afterwards she took a horrible turn for the worst. Could not walk, eat, drink, she had very bad seizures, she had no balance - her equalibrium was just messed up, and when you looked into her eyes - she was not really there. Blank stares. Her head would bobble like a bobble doll you see on someones back dash. After many exams and trips they said their was nothing that could be done. She went on antibotics, steroids, and valium, well after 4 rounds of steroids throughout a period of 2 years she has recovered and not relapsed (knock on wood). She only has minor seperation anxiety now, the steroids put 4 extra pounds on her, but otherwise she seems to be ok.I am just wondering how much this sort of thing happens, if anyone wants to share any stories please email me. We were certainly devasted because we thought we were going to have to put our child to sleep. I also got a puppy from the same breeder and same parents for my mom and she has had kidney stones and bladder infections and severe seperation anxiety. This has definitly been severe trauma in her life as well as ours. Thanks for you beautiful website.

I'm looking to adopt a female maltese puppy to add to my family. I recently had to put to sleep my maltese best friend, and feel lost without her. I have two other gentle dogs who miss her also. She was our glue. Let me know if you will have a pet (not show dog) some time in August. I live in Arvada CO Thanks

I truly enjoyed looking at your beautiful Maltese babies. I owned a little male Maltese for 13 years. When I had to put him down it was like I had lost one of my children. He was the most loyal little dog that I have ever owned and he was never out of my sight. He has been gone for about 4 years and I said "never again, I just can't go through that again" but here I am looking and longing to have that loyal, loving little dog at my heels once again. My little "Snowy" only weighed about 4 lbs. but he thought that he was a bull-dog. I still miss him. Thank you for sharing your babies.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your website. I just became the mom to an 8year old maltese that I named Marilyn Monroe, She was found in a snow bank with a bad case of fleas, an injured rear leg and starving. She was taken to Animal Control where I found her. I had to wait a couple of days to see if anyone would claim her, but no one did. The AC officers believe that she was from a puppy mill and was no long breeding, so they dumped her. I fell in love with her. Marilyn is starting to gain a little weight back, she will be getting spayed in 2weeks and no fleas. Thank you for the information that you have given about the Maltese and what I can expect. Marilyn will never be a showring dog - but she is my sweetie. thanks again Debbie Criner Bay City Michigan

A friend in Colorado has an adorable little Maltese he got from a breeder in Co. I am interested in having a little one so he told me to go to your web site. It is probably the most entertaining & informative site I have ever been too. Thank you so much for the information on the rescue sites. I live in northern California. Do you know of any rescue places in Ca.? My husband is retired & I work 4 days a week. We had our lab for 15 years & she was the light of our lives but she went to heaven last May. We want a smaller dog we can take everywhere with us. Thankyou again, Nance Howe

Thank you so much for all the information posted on your website. I am also very glad that I read it before purchasing a "teacup" maltese pup. This site is exactly what I have been looking for since I am not educated on buying breeds. I am now looking over some of the websites you provided that are rescue centers for such dogs. I don't think I could afford a maltese from a reputable breeder however, I am just in love with this breed. Again, thanks for taking the time to provide a website full of answers for people like me. May God bless and keep you!

O MY GOSH! My parents said I can get one. They brought me to a pet store and the owner let me hold his Maltese and my mom saw how much I loved it and they said next year when I'm a freshman I'll get a job and then if I pay for it with my own money I can get one!!! I'm so happy. So I'm saving up all my allowance money and by next year at this time I might have a Maltese puppy!!! I'm sooo happy!! Just thought I share since this is a Maltese website!! -Mandie

I loved your website. I am in the thinking process of buying a Maltese puppy, female. I know very little about these dogs, but have been reading up on them and other small dogs, trying to decide what I want. Are the Maltese hardy little dogs, healthwise? I am in Loveland, Colorado, and came across your website. I would love to come and see your dogs. I would want one only as a indoor pet. I'm not sure you answer the comments, but I would love to hear from you.

Thank you for a wonderful website about your family of Maltese, you should be proud ! I got my first Maltese this Christmas. Her name is Lilly. She was 8 weeks old. I am 13 years old. She was 1 lb- 4 oz. and you were right about the 8 week rule. She got hypoglycemic and had to go to the emergency hospital. This occured right after her shot was given. like the next day or so. Her body temp. went down and she needed food. the doctor gave her some dextrose and warmed her up on a heating pad and she came right to. She was in bad shape. I love my little Lilly and hope to enjoy and learn much more about this wonderful breed of dog. Alex Angel
